The History behind this temple is that a devotee who used to visit Tirupati every year could not do so on one occasion due to ill-health. Lord Venkateshwara appeared in his dream and said, "I am right here in the jungle nearby. You don't have to worry." The devotee at once moved to the place indicated by the Lord in the dream and saw a molehill there, which he dug up. Accidentally, the axe struck Lord Balaji's idol covered by the mole- hill below the chin and on the chest, and surprisingly blood started flowing from the wounds, flooding the ground. The devotee could not believe his eyes when he saw this. Suddenly he could not believe his ears also when he heard a voice from the air, which said, Flood the mole- hill with cow's milk. When the devotee did so, a Swayambhu idol of Lord Balaji accompanied by Sridevi and Bhoodevi (a rare combination) was found, and this idol was installed with the due rites and a temple built for it.This temple is also popularly known as Visa Temple because many devotees come here with the wish of going abroad.It's customary to go around the temple (known as pradakshina) eleven times and pray to god for a specific wish. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam referred to as A. P. J. Abdul Kalam born in Oct 15,1931 and was the 11th President of India who served from 2002 to 2007. During his term as President, he was popularly known as the People's President.Before his term as India's president, he worked as an aeronautical engineer with DRDO and ISRO. He is popularly known as the Missile Man of India for his work on development of ballistic missile and space rocket technology.He always says perseverance, hard work and patience should be there in every one's mind.He grew up in as a boy in the island town of Rameswaram, in south India.His father, a humble boat owner, Jainulabdeen, was a devout Muslim and a close friend of the Rameswaram temple priest. Kalam was brought up in a multi-religious, tolerant society; one with a progressive outlook. His father often quoted from the Quran to make the young Kalam see the world without fear. He had seven siblings, and a doting mother who, at times, made chappatis for Kalam, while the others were given rice as Kalam’s day would start at four in the morning and end at 11 pm.His father wasn’t educated, but he wanted Kalam to study. Kalam would get up at 4 am, bathe, and then go for his mathematics class, which was taught by a teacher who took only five students in the whole session; and bathing before class was a condition he had laid to all his students. After his morning class, Kalam along with his cousin Samsuddin went around town distributing the newspaper. As the town had no electricity, kerosene lamps were lit at his home between 7 pm and 9 pm. But because Kalam studied until 11, his mother would save some for him for later use.Being a bright student, Kalam always had the support of his schoolteachers. Schwarzt High School’s Iyadurai Solomon often told Kalam that if he truly, intensely desired something, he would get it. “This made me fearless,” said Dr Kalam. And outside school, Ahmed Jallaluddin, who later became his brother-in-law, and Samsuddin, encouraged Kalam to appreciate nature’s wonders. So at once, while growing up, he was exposed to a religious and a practical way of looking at the world.The flight of birds had fascinated him since he was a boy, but it was years later he realised that he wanted to fly aircrafts. After finishing school, he took up Physics at St Joseph’s College, Trichi, but towards the end he was dissatisfied. When he discovered aeronautical engineering, he regretted having lost three precious years. But he was glad to have discovered Leo Tolstoy, Thomas Hardy and F Scott Fitzgerald and other English poets in his college years.At Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), Chennai, where Kalam studied aeronautics, he learnt an important lesson: the value of time. He was leading a project on system design, when one day the principal walked into the class to see his work. He appeared dissatisfied and told Kalam that he wanted the project finished in the next two days; else his scholarship aid would be withdrawn. That unsettled Kalam; years of his father’s hardships would come to naught. Kalam worked without food and sleep. On the last day, his professor came to check on his progress. He was impressed and said: “I was putting you under stress and asking you to meet a difficult deadline,” recounted Dr Kalam.Although Kalam has led several projects in his professional life, he’s treated each like his last. Such was his passion. No wonder, he’s always led projects. His advisor, Major General R Swaminathan explained Kalam’s success as a leader. “He has this unique capability of being a boss as well as a worker. He can take on any role with ease.” When Dr Kalam’s first major project SLV 3-failed the first time he was almost shattered. Also, around this time, Kalam’s childhood mentor, Jallaluddin, died. “A part of me too passed away…” said Dr Kalam. But he never thought of quitting after SLV-3. “I knew that for success, we have to work hard and persevere.” And so, SLV-3 was launched again, this time with success. He drew strength from philosophy, religion and literature to tide by his professional setbacks; also a life with few companions. In time, he also learnt to deal with professional jealousy and uncooperative team members.Success followed Dr Kalam. Prithvi, Agni, Akash, Trishul and Nag missiles were huge successes. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan and Bharat Ratna, and then he became the President of India; one of the few presidents who have touched the hearts of so many poor children in the country. Cashew nuts/jedipappu curry recepie

Ingredients:
1.250 g (8 oz) raw Cashews
2.3 Cups thin Coconut milk (or water)
3.1 medium Onion, sliced
4.2 fresh green Chilies, sliced
5.2 cloves Garlic, crushed
6.5 cm Cinnamon stick
7.8 Curry leaves
8.3 tbs olive oil
9.1/4 tsp ground turmeric
10.1 tbs Curry powder
11.½ tsp ground cumin
12.1 Cup thick Coconut milk or fresh milk
13.2 pieces Goraka (Optional)

Procedure:
1. Place the cashews in a bowl, add boiling water, close with lid and soak for about 4 hours or overnight.
2. Drain the water from cashews and add salt, turmeric, raw curry powder, goraka and mix well until cashews are well coated.
3. Heat the oil in a medium saucepan then add onions, green chilies, crushed garlic, cinnamon and fry until onions are soft and golden brown.
4. Add the cashews and keep stirring until well coated with oil and onions.
5. Add thin coconut milk or water, close with lid and cook on slow heat until cashews are soft and cooked.
6. Add the thick coconut milk (or fresh milk) and bring to a boil on slow heat.
Turn off heat. Adjust salt to taste.

4.Now add salt,chillipowder and allow it to get cooked
5.Now make a small space in between cooking brinjal pieces and put the chopped tomatoes
6.Close the lid and allow them to cook for some time
7.Cook till the tomatoes are soft enough and then mash tomatoes and stir

After the company scraped plans to build a dual-screen tablet earlier this year, it’s been steadily adding features to its software and broadening its focus to include tools for educators.You’ve recently announced Facebook integration with social learning features includes “stickies”, “bookmarks”, and more to come like “Journal”. Can you provide a hint of what future updates will include down the line, perhaps social gaming?

This summer, we released our basic learning product available on Facebook but our in-depth social learning ideas are yet to be released. We’ve been testing many things targeted at enhancing the student learning environment and that includes making the experience more social. We also recently announced that we’ll be adding features that further develop the interaction between students and educators.
Since the beginning, Kno has had a very active user base. We now have students from more than 4,000 different universities across the U.S. It’s still early days for a mass study but we hear individually from students almost daily about how Kno has enhanced their learning experience. Some of the big themes we hear over and over again are how much time Kno saves them. For example, if a student has time in between business classes, they can do their biology reading without having to carry extra books.Students also mention that they are using the textbooks more since they have them with them - so they are engaging with digital content in a more meaningful way. Additionally, features like “Quiz Me” allow for greater absorption of the material. At Kno, we focus on higher education at the moment so we don’t have data on K-12.Electronic books and online distance learning are a few ways technology can help reduce education costs. Are there any others? In the future, every student will learn in a personalized manner, which means that students will also be able to get through learning faster. Assessment and adaptive techniques will allow for content to be customized for the student, which will reduce costs as well. All of the above may lead to students graduating faster thus reducing overall costs.In your talk at UC Berkeley last month, you mentioned that there’s big opportunity in what electronic books can enable, such as assessment tools for educators and self-paced study for students. What are the implications for the traditional student-teacher relationship?We believe that there will be positive implications that will be motivational for both student and teachers. We believe that technology such as Kno will only enhance the student/teacher relationship. It’s not about replacing the one-to-one or one-to-many interaction. It’s about eliminating the friction between student and teacher to allow for more enhanced learning. Teachers will be more engaged with students since they will be able to see what actual efforts students are putting in and thus focus on areas of weakness - thus being more motivational.
South Korean education officials recently announced plans to digitize (in phases) all textbooks used in the classroom. Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Education appears too beleaguered with financial and political challenges to propose similar initiatives. How do you see educational reform playing out in the US over the next few years, if at all? Education reform will be driven by the private sector as we go forward. The U.S. Constitution does not allow for one system to be ‘forced’ across all the states like we see in many countries. If the U.S. government does not involve the private sector in a meaningful way, we will be leapfrogged by many countries. We have seen early indications of that already.However, I have no doubt that this form will be driven by technology based companies and Silicon Valley will be leading the way.How will education look like in the distant future, say around 2025? By 2025, we can expect the world to be completely digital. Paper books will be a thing of the past. Education will be delivered through analytics-based assessment tools and adaptive learning platforms. Also, I think the possibilities for remote learning across geographies will be commonplace and provide access to worldwide subject experts for everyone.

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IIT-GN) have undertaken a project to develop a 'slight early' earthquake warning system.The institute has teamed up with California Institute of Technology (CIT), Pasadena, USA, to develop a system having dense network of low-cost motion sensors capable of sensing earthquake's early seismic activity."The goal of our project is to put in place a network of small devices called accelerometers near an active fault line which can pick up earth vibrations. They can be standalone devices transmitting data to a central server," Prof Girish Singhal, project incharge at IIT-GN said."A mesh of very low-cost sensors in that area shall be able to pick up velocity of shock waves, issuing slight early alerts of an earthquake," Singhal claimed.The project is expected to be of immense help to first responders during a calamity.According to estimate of experts, an earthquake in Bhuj will take few minutes to reach Ahmedabad and an early warning system in place could help in issuing alerts to shut down big machines here, which are potential major source of secondary losses in the event of any seismic activity. Singhal, along with two final year B.Tech students, is working on this project at IIT-GN. "One of the students, Prathmesh Juvatkar, visited CIT as part of this project on building a community seismic network. He has brought four sensors along with him for this pilot project," Singhal said. "I went to CIT, Pasadena, USA and my project was on building a Community Seismic Network," Juvatkar, a third-year Electrical Engineering student at IIT-GN, said.

A software developed by three IT professionals promises to change the teacher, students, parents dynamics in Kerala.Called Edualert, the software has been developed by US-based Keralites Akbar Narendran and Sanjay Nair, and Rajiv Viswanath who is based here."Edualert can give suggestions to a student and his parents as to which career suits him best based on his academic performance," 33-year-old Narendran told IANS on a visit to Kerala to promote the software.The modus operandi goes something like this. Details of a child's entire academic history, his interests and extra curricular activities right from the first grade is fed into the software. "Through an analysis, it would reveal which is the best career option for the student," Narendran said.Edualert operations manager Ramakrishnan said the thinking of parents in the state for long has been that there are only two good professions -- engineering and medicine."We have observed that many children for fear of earning the wrath of their parents unwillingly opt for either of the two most sought after professions," said Ramakrishnan.The basic version of Edualert is free for schools. Around 10 schools in the state have already given the nod to this unique product."In January, we will come again because we have got numerous enquiries from schools in some metros and Tier II cities. We will first do a demonstration of our product in front of teachers and parents," said Narendran.
The software with add-ons version comes fairly cheap and it will cost 10 percent of the annual fee of a student, said Narendran."It includes a centralised process of taking attendance which takes only a few minutes. All the information on children and their progress would be available at a click of a mouse," said Iyer.However, a Class 12 student had different views on the subject.
"In many homes, the relation between parents and children is friendly. The software wouldn't bother those kids. But overall, parents would always like to know what their ward is doing which is a little scary," said the student, before saying that since his schooling was almost over, he had escaped.However, a mother of a Class 10 student said: "Children need not be worried because this is a tool for their own betterment and for their good future. Just look into the positives and not the negative aspect that it will track children," she said.

Toothpaste has a history that stretches back nearly 4,000 years. Until the mid-nineteenth century, abrasives used to clean teeth did not resemble modern toothpastes. People were primarily concerned with cleaning stains from their teeth and used harsh, sometimes toxic ingredients to meet that goal. Ancient Egyptians used a mixture of green lead, verdigris (the green crust that forms on certain metals like copper or brass when exposed to salt water or air), and incense. Ground fish bones were used by the early Chinese.In the Middle Ages, fine sand and pumice were the primary ingredients in teeth-cleaning formulas used by Arabs. Arabs realized that using such harsh abrasives harmed the enamel of the teeth. Concurrently, however, Europeans used strong acids to lift stains. In western cultures, similarly corrosive mixtures were widely used until the twentieth century. Table salt was also used to clean teeth.In 1850, Dr. Washington Wentworth Sheffield, a dental surgeon and chemist, invented the first toothpaste. He was 23 years old and lived in New London, Connecticut. Dr. Sheffield had been using his invention, which he called Creme Dentifrice, in his private practice. The positive response of his patients encouraged him to market the paste. He constructed a laboratory to improve his invention and a small factory to manufacture it.Modern toothpaste was invented to aid in the removal foreign particles and food substances, as well as clean the teeth. When originally marketed to consumers, toothpaste was packaged in jars. Chalk was commonly used as the abrasive in the early part of the twentieth century.Sheffield Labs claims it was the first company to put toothpaste in tubes. Washington Wentworth Sheffield's son, Lucius, studied in Paris, France, in the late nineteenth century. Lucius noticed the collapsible metal tubes being used for paints. This toothbrush was made of hairs from the neck of a Siberian wild boar which were fixed to a bamboo or bone handle. The people, however, found the wild boar hairs too stiff. At the time, very few people in the Western world brushed their teeth, and those who did preferred horse hairs, which were softer than those of the wild boar! In Europe, it was more customary after meals to use a goose feather toothpick, or one made of silver or copper.Other animals’ hair was also used for dental care, right up until this century. But it was the poor Siberian wild boar that took the brunt of it. The animal was imported for its neck hairs for a long, long time... in fact, until nylon was invented, in the XXth century French dentists, promoted the European use of toothbrushes in the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. The first toothbrush mass-produced was made by William Addis of Clerkenwald, England. The natural bristles were obtained from the necks and shoulders of swine, especially from pigs living in colder climates like Siberia and China.The first American to patent a toothbrush was H. N. The Pro-phy-lac-tic brush made by the Florence Manufacturing Company of Massachusetts is a good example of an early American made toothbrush. Nagula Chavithi Festival

Nagula Chavithi is a festival where serpents are worshipped with great devotion. Nagula Chavithi is celebrated during the months of “Sravanam”(August) and/or in “Karthikam” (November). “Nagu” means the snake and “Chavithi” is the fourth day after every newmoon day. On this day, devotees observe fast and worship Nagamayya, the supreme snake- the Seven hooded cobra. Fresh flowers, milk, vadapappu, chalimidi, nuvvula-mudda and fresh coconut are offered as neivedyam. Thoranam is also placed infront of Nagamayya. Devotees offer milk to Naga Vigraham beneath the bodhi tree in temples and some complete the pooja at home placing an idol of a snake just for that day.Legend behind Nagula Chavithi is that during the churning of the ocean by gods and demons in search of “Amrutham” (the nectar of immortality), a snake was used as rope and in the process, a terrible poison (“garalam”) emerged. The poison would have engulfed the whole world, but for Bhagavan Shiva, who swallowed it and retained it in His throat. His throat turned blue – hence, Bhagavan Shiva is called “Neelakantha”. However, a few drops spilled and to ward off the evil effects, people worship the Cobra, the king of snakes, to pacify the brood and protect themselves from any ill effects.

Ingredients preparation: Crush or grate the jaggery to fine. Grate the dry coconut. Crush the cardamom seeds and prepare cardamom powder. Store them in clean jars.
On Nagula Chavithi Day:
Purify with a head bath. Decorate the mandir with fresh flowers.
Prepare neivedyam: Vadapappu, chalimidi, sesame laddu.
Vadapappu: Soak half cup of yellow moong dal in two cups of water for about an hour. At pooja time, drain the water and add the rehydrated moong dal to neivedyam platter. For detailed vadapappu recipe and photo -click here.
Chalimidi: soak 3/4 cup of rice grains in water for about half an hour. Drain the water and spread the rice on a clean cloth to air-dry for about 15 minutes under the sun or fan. Take the semi-dried rice in a food processor or mortar. Grind or pound to fine powder. It comes about one cup of rice powder. You could also use readymade rice powder for chalimidi for convenience. The taste won’t be the same though.
To this rice powder, add quarter cup of dry coconut powder, one cup of finely crushed jaggery, a tablespoon of white poppy seeds and a teaspoon of cardamom powder. Blend the ingredients without adding any water until well combined. Take this sweet rice mix in a bowl. Take about three tablespoons of this mixture into your hand. Press gently into round shape and some into cylindrical shape. Usually the moisture from rice and jaggery is enough to shape the mixture into rounds. If necessary, sprinkle few drops of water or melted ghee for easy shaping. This is chalimidi. Place few chalimidi on neivedyam platter.
Nuvvula Mudda (Sesame Laddu): Crush or grate jaggery to superfine mix. Take a cup of sesame seeds in a food processor or stone mortar. Add a cup of jaggery, quarter cup of rice powder, quarter cup of dry coconut powder and a teaspoon of cardamom powder. Grind or pound the ingredients well without adding any water. Sesame seeds have to reach from powder to oily mix stage. When you see the oil from sesame seeds starts separating, remove the mix to a bowl. Mix in a tablespoon of poppy seeds. Take two to three tablespoons of mixture into your hand. Press gently into round shape and some into cylindrical shape. These are nuvvula mudda. Place few nuvvula mudda on neivedyam platter.Now the neivedyam is ready. On to the pooja.
For Nagula Chavithi Pooja:
Prepare Nagamayya: I do not have Nagamayya statue at home, so I make Nagamayya with wheat flour. Take quarter cup of wheat flour in a bowl. Sprinkle few tablespoons of water, knead and make tight dough. Roll the dough into a long, round coil. Shape the coil into a snake form and press the coil end into snake head(padaga/ hood) form. Cover the snake in turmeric and kumkum mixture. This is Nagamayya and the deity of the day is ready now. Place the Nagamayya in bhagavan mandir. Decorate with fresh oleanders and other flowers. Place a small glass of fresh milk and a spoon on the side.
Prepare the thoranam: Take a cotton thread in three rows. Apply turmeric to the thread. This is thoranam. Place it in front of Nagamayya.
Pooja Vidhanam:
Place the neivedyam platter with Vadapappu, chalimidi and nuvvula mudda in front of Nagamayya. Place fresh fruits (bananas).
Light the deepam and agarbatti.
Offer milk to Nagamayya. Take a teaspoon of milk and gently pour onto Nagamayya head.
Recite Sri Subramanya Swamy Astothharam for Nagamayya. Meditate.
Break the coconut. Offer coconut water and then mangala arathi to Nagamayya.
Take the thoranam and tie it to your right wrist. Do the same for your family members. While tying the knot, make a wish.The pooja is finished. Leave the home and spend few minutes in front or back door. This is a tradition so that the Nagamayya can have some privacy to enjoy the neivedyam.After few minutes outside, come inside and have neivedyam prasadam with family and friends. Usually we fast on Nagula Chavithi and have only neivedyam, milk and fruits. The next day on Naga Panchami, we prepare the feast with payasam, pulihora and vada or bajji, along with rice, dal, curry and dahi. After offering the neivedyam to bhagavan on banana leaf, the festival feast is shared with family and friends.Mothers gift their married daughters new clothes, bangles, sesame laddus and dry whole coconuts. Elder sisters also share the gifts with younger sisters.After evening mangala arathi, sendoff Nagamayya into woods. Place the deity on a plant or tree and leave it there for the nature.

Kuber is one god , who is been claimes as own god by Hinduism , Buddhism and Jainism. In Hindu mythology Lord Kuber is represented as the son of Lord Brahma , he is the ruler of the hidden city in the himalayas called Alkapuri, which has all the stored up wealth of the Earth. This is close to the abode of Lord Shiva, in Kailash .
Kuber is supposed to be a shiva worshipper as well , hence his name is also called as Isasakha.Kubera is also the son of Sage Vishrava (hence he is also called Vaisravana) and in this respect, he is also the elder brother of the Lord of Lanka, Ravana.

When Brahma appointed him God of Riches, he gave him Lanka (Ceylon) as his capital, presented him with the vehicle pushpaka(according to the Ramayana), which was of immense size and ‘moved at the owner’s will at marvellous speed’.
When Ravana captured Lanka, Kubera moved to his city of Alaka, and established his Yaksha Kingdom there.Kubera's house was believed to be the abode of Adilakshmi, the goddess of wealth who, pleased by his devotion, gave him immense wealth making him nideesha or the keeper of riches.
Lord Vishnu/ Balaji/ Venkateswara at Tirupati asked him for a loan to marry Goddess Laxmi. It is believed that till today Lord Balaji is paying interest on that loan. Devotees try and do their bit and donate generously to help Lord Balaji.
The next legend of Lord Kubera is related to Lord Ganesh. One day Lord Kubera went to Mount Kailash to seek the blessings of Shiva. As he was conceited, he decided to invite Lord Shiva for a feast at his magnificent city of Alakpuri.
Lord Shiva was aware of his narcissistic quality and politely backed out of this invitation and said that his son, Lord Ganesh would be more than happy to join in the festivities.
But Kubera was made aware that Lord Ganesh was a connoisseur of good food and had a voracious appetite. Kubera beamed with over confidence and was convinced that Lord Ganesh’s hunger would be easily satiated.
Kubera took little Lord Ganesh with him to his glorious city and offered Him a ceremonial bath, then adorned Him in exquisite clothing. Our Lord was then taken to a splendid arena where the feast was arranged.
The royal attendants served Lord Ganesh and He started eating. He relished on everything that was offered and continued gobbling on a wide variety of delicacies. The food that was prepared for Kubera’s other esteemed guests were also offered.
But nothing seemed to satisfy Him and He kept waiting for the attendants to dole out more portions. In the meantime, the attendants hurried to arrange more quantities of food. Impatient, Lord Ganesh started consuming the plates.

Lord Ganesh with his little, innocent eyes looked at Kubera and said that he was still very hungry. Until he was offered more food, he said that he would continue eating whatever that was in front of Him.
Kubera frantically rushed to Mount Kailash and begged Lord Shiva to give him a solution. Lord Shiva smiled and handed him a fistful of roasted rice and instructed Kubera to offer this with humility.
By the time Kubera managed to reach his kingdom, Lord Ganesh was on the verge of swallowing up the entire city of Alakpuri. Kubera paid obeisance and humbly offered the roasted rice. This satiated Lord Ganesh’s hunger and he was pleased.
Qualities like humility and respect are the unbeatable duo that can change an unattainable situation to an accomplishment, if one knows how to use them sincerely in their undertakings.
Materialistic possessions blind people with arrogance but this veil can be lifted when one learns to be humble and remembers that everything he owns is because of his blessings.
